Ath-kanda lihini / Warana
Among the menagerie of Mythical Sinhala or Asian
beasts there is a great elephant headed raptorial
bird known as the “Ath-kanda Lihiniya” sometimes
also referred to as “Warana” A great bird is said to
have hunted Elephants and towered like a cloud
when in flight. Though few stories of Ath kanda
lihiniya survive in present Sinhala lore several
graphic representations could be found among
temple motifs.
