16th century -Forces of King Rajasinghe 1 siege and storm the
Portuguese fort in Colombo. The battle contained among the grandest
armies ever fielded for battle by any sinhala king.

Siege of Colombo - Sinhala artillery
King Rajasinghe I is known to have brought in 150 pieces of Bronze
cannon for the Siege. In addition the Sinhala artillery of the time
included Kodithuwakku (Grass hopper cannons) and Rockets.

Prince Tikiri rising over Mulleriyawela.
In 1559 Captain-major Jorge de Meneses Baroche’ met in
battle the Sithawaka armies lead by young and charismatic
prince Tikiri within the marshes of Mulleriyawela
The carnage on the fields of the Mulleriyawa marshes were
great. It is said that about 1600 Portuguese soldiers were
slain in battle turning the waters of the marsh red from the
blood spilt of the slain soldiers
Fall of Elara
The final battle between Prince Gamini Abhaya and King Elara was fought as a
duel near the Southern gate of the Anuradhapura citadel. Where Prince
Gamunu’s royal mount Kandual tusked King Elara’s Elephant “Maha pabbatha”
as the prince evaded King Elara’s arrow and fell him with a javelin.
